Vienna minimal wave, 1981
ZYX
ZYX was the recording name of Walter Zyx, a Viennese electronic musician. His 1981 album Trust No Woman, released on Austria's OK Musica label, is a stark early example of minimal wave and often gets compared to Cabaret Voltaire, the Human League and Kraftwerk. That same year he began a long partnership with visual artist Inge Graf. As Graf+Zyx, the two spent decades making video, computer art and installations, and Vienna's mumok museum later profiled them. The album found new listeners through reissues on Klanggalerie in 2007 and on San Francisco's Dark Entries in 2016.
