Argentine rock's first tragic legend
Tanguito
José Alberto Iglesias, known to everyone as Tanguito, was there at the very start of rock nacional, Argentina's homegrown Spanish-language rock movement, writing with Los Gatos' Litto Nebbia in the Buenos Aires bars where it took shape in 1967. He got little credit at the time. His own album, Tango, was recorded around 1969 and 1970 but not released until 1973, a year after he died at twenty-seven. His death made him Argentine rock's first tragic legend, and the 1993 film Tango Feroz pushed the myth further. The album is one of the few records of his own voice that exist at all.
